Last week, China’s top court held a hearing in order to decide whether to rehear a high-profile trademark dispute between Michael Jordan and Qiaodan Sports.

On July 2015, the Beijing High People’s Court issued a verdict in favor of Qiaodan Sports after Jordan demanded the suspension of Qiaodan Sports’s use of some trademarks registered by the company, since Qiao Dan is the mandarin translation of his name, and he considered that the company was misleading consumers and getting money through the use of his name.

The original verdict dismissed Jordan’s request, since the court considered that Qiao Dan is a common name in China and the company did not violate any specific terms of China’s Trademark Law.
