Ex-NBA player faces a 45 year prison sentence for fraud

Kermit Alan, ex-basketball player, faces a prison sentence of 45 years after for allegedly running a charity fraud scheme.

The former NBA star has been charged with tax evasion, identity theft and wire fraud. He used a charity to defraud its donors by making them believe that 100% of the donations would go to Africa. Instead, he used that money to buy gifts and pay personal expenses.

Alan was arrested last Tuesday in LA and appeared in Court that same day. Now he will have to appear in Court next June 16. He could face a 3 years prison sentence for corruptly interfering with the internal revenue laws, plus 40 years for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, obstruction of justice and 2 years for identity theft.
